And yeah, I can hardly wait to get back lol

Ghost - I'll have to think more on that and get back to you. I have some ideas on the subject, but I need a little more time to flesh them out.

Tangocommuter - I was very surprised at how much contact there was between dancers in the milongas I was in - but then they were very crowded. It took some getting used to - which came as I surprise because, of course, I thought I was already dancing close. Close takes on a whole new meaning down there!Marikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14195873941515232734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5370884568160752646.post-26175995428988361992012-10-12T07:04:38.914-07:002012-10-12T07:04:38.914-07:00Many thanks for finding time to write about it all...Many thanks for finding time to write about it all! I've enjoyed reading, and it's reminded me of so much, especially '...how well they know the music and how well they manage their space.' In a nutshell!

& Daniela's comments are really interesting. As to the men stepping close I noticed in a video of Osvaldo and Coca recently how he steps exactly into the space her foot has just left. I guess dancers outside BsAs are just not quite confident enough to do that, and women used to BsAs tango certainly notice.

Look forward to more of your observations!Tangocommuterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14060601718946750364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5370884568160752646.post-85263248594574008522012-10-11T02:34:55.402-07:002012-10-11T02:34:55.402-07:00As you're in the mood for blasphemy... :o)
Th...As you're in the mood for blasphemy... :o)

There's a sentiment I've heard expressed a lot that goes roughly on a scale of 1 to 10 milongeuros are 10s. People native to BsAs who dance there are 8s. The rest of the world are capped around 5.

My own theory is that at a certain point you gradually stop getting better and start getting more individual, which seems to gel with what you're saying.

Thus it's perfectly reasonable for someone born and raised in Ohio who's never been to BsAs, to give a milonguero a run for their money.

I would accept that if you had a private milonga that was "milongueros only" the standard would be a 10, that the milongas in BsAs are about an 8 and that pretty much the rest of the world is capped at about a 5. but that's for the place as a whole, not a cap on specific dancers.

I'm interested in your take on the above?

Glad you enjoyed yourself :o)Ghostnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5370884568160752646.post-7220744488955085392012-10-10T18:40:49.722-07:002012-10-10T18:40:49.722-07:00Glad you enjoyed your trip so much you didn't ...Glad you enjoyed your trip so much you didn't want to leave and are already planning to go back.
